A general term that describes support services that enable business functionality, business services are necessary for firms to prosper. The business services of choice for this research are: accounting, auditing and finance & legal services. This group will look into the three above-mentioned sectors of business services in three countries: Singapore, Malaysia & Indonesia to compare the growths in each country and their growth stimuli.

This group looks into the online shopping market in China and Korea, comparing different sites such as JD, TaoBao, Qoo10 and HomePlus that dominate their home markets to analyse the factors that influence the growth rate both in their home markets and overseas.

Palm Oil Industry In Indonesia

 

 

A small medium enterprise in the palm oil agricultural industry in Kalimantan Island, Indonesia, GreenLive focuses on Corperate Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability. With the slogan "Sustaining Human life towards a greener future", GreenLive aims to be a part of RSPO (Round table on Sustainable Palm Oil ) Organisation. This project focuses on the palm oil industry in Indonesia, analysing the strategies and operation methods of the major market shareholders to identify the environmental consequences of such practices in order for GreenLive to develop the most sustainable practices that will surpass RSPO standards.

When the intellectual property rights to a pharmaceutical drug expires, competing drug firms are able to use the formula to produce similar drugs. These drugs are known as generic drugs. The Royal Medical Team (RMT) is a famous pharmaceutical brand from USA which focuses on providing generic drugs. Looking to further expanding their market, RMT has identified Vietnam as a potential market due to its prospects. This group will focus on researching and analysing the various aspects of the pharmaceutical market in Vietnam to aid RMT in making an informed decision.

Established in 2012, Mufa Company is a small palm oil company based in Malaysia that is dedicated to sustainable practices. Using the newest technologies that minimises environmental damage and addresses health concerns to ensure a competitve advantage, the firm prospers by exporting its products to countries such as India and China. Due to its profitability, the firm is contemplating expansion and implementation of more advanced technologies such as solar panels and water turbines to power their facilities. This group will analyse the benefits and feasibility of these ideas to ensure Mufa continues to prosper

South East Asia is one of the world’s fastest growing market segments, responsible for many exports in the world. Many multinational companies are moving into South East Asia due to its location and rapid growth. This group will focus on two industries that have annual growths of approximately 15% for the last five years. Research will be done on the factors influencing the rapid growth of online retail in Singapore and tourism in Malaysia. Implications of this research will aid industries in the respective countries identify the key factors to further enhance growth.

Market Expansion Services Insights in South East Asian Region (Fast Expanding Markets)

 

The following project unveils a young, unique industry: Market Expansion Services or MES, the industry that helps companies to grow. MES provides customized services for a company to enter a new market or increase local market share.

Although this industry is developing globally, the main focus of this project is the Southeast Asian Region, which has the second highest growth rate of 11.4% with projections of further growth. The research will answer questions such as: What is this industry about? Why this industry? Why this region? Why is it fast developing? Why does it promise future growth? and more insights of the Market Expansion Services industry.

Despite the slowdown in economic growth in recent years, East Asia is predicted to remain growing as the region recovers from the global financial crisis. The Korean Pop music industry (KPOP) in South Korea and LED lighting industry in Japan have been chosen as the focus for this group. With the South Korean GDP strongly supported by the rapid growth of KPOP and Japan's recent rising demand for LED lighting, venture capitalists will be able to make informed decisions when investing in these industries from this research's analysis of the factors of growth and its potential for the future.

The research will provide insights to the push and pull factors of E-commerce in these countries, the different strategies adopted by various industry leaders and the sustainability and growth potentials of these industries.

Electronic waste or E-waste refers to electrical or electronic devices that are discarded. With the number of electronic devices such as personal computers and smartphones ever growing, this group will delve into the various environmental issues that arise from discarding e-waste and the potential investment opportunities that these devices provide. Their research outcome will provide potential Singaporean investors with recommendations on the feasibility of investing in a E-waste recycling business in Surabaya, Indonesia.

A nepalese investor is contemplating the idea of starting a doughnut franchise in Kathmandu, Nepal. This group has been tasked with looking into the market opportunities and feasibility of this idea through market research and analysis of the various factors that would affect the business and its growth potential. Their findings will aid the investors in making a well-informed decision.

This group has been tasked by an American architect to identify an Indonesian city suitable for flipping several buildings, converting them into a luxury hotel. Through analysis of the flipping industry in Indonesia and the various factors that may affect the project's success, the group's research outcomes will aid in the architect's proposal for potential investors who may enable him to fufill his aspirations.

Fish Farming Project in Bali, Indonesia

 

With Grouper consumption as high as 30kg per capita in northern Bali, investing in a fish farm can provide lucrative returns. This group is tasked with identifying the best aquaculture methods suitable for use in Bali and the various costs required for establishing a fish farm in Bali. Research will also be done on the various factors that would affect the profitability of aquaculture in Bali such as chemical waste disposal into the sea by corporations and environmental damage caused by excessive tourist numbers. The conclusions of this research will enable investors to make well-informed decisions prior to investing.

With smartphone adoption rate in Singapore being one of the highest in South East Asia, the mobile application market presents great potential. Smartphones are now being used as a modern swiss army knife, with applications capable of turning smartphones into flashlights, barcode scanners and even pocket dictionaries. This group has identified the opportunity to tap on the high smartphone adoption rate and will research on the creation process of a mobile application that will provide users information on events in Singapore with the option to display them based on proximity to the user.

Hydroponic Farm in Bali

 

 

With chili peppers, tomatoes, sweet corn and leafy vegetables such as cabbage and lettuce being the crop of choice of most local farmers in Bali, this group is researching the feasibility of introducing Dynamic Root Floating technology(DRF) and hydroponic technologies to replace traditional farming methods which are less efficient and vunerable to environmental changes. Such hydroponic farms would also be less space consuming and environmentally friendly, eliminating the need for soil and irrigation unlike traditional farms. These technologies, if deemed appropriate, could revolutionise the vegetable farming industry in Bali.

Implementation of a Five-stars Resort in Ngapali Bay, Myanmar

 

Ngapali Bay is a beach paradise, with whitewash sand, crystal clear turquoise waters and a perpetual summer. Tasked by an international investor, this group will be looking into the feasibility of the implementation of a new luxury five star resort in Ngapali Bay, Myanmar. Through research of Myanmar's tourism industry and other luxury resorts in South East Asia, the conclusions of this project will aid the investor in making a well-informed decision on the investment.

Ngapali is a city located in the Rakhine state in Western part of Myanmar. Due to a recent rise in tourism in the area, the number of resorts in the area is rapidly growing, resulting in even higher tourist numbers. A prospective investor is looking to develop a large five-star integrated beach resort on the undeveloped coastline in Ngapali. This group is tasked with the feasibility studies of this possible endeavour through analysis of the current tourism industry in Myanmar and the presence of competition which could potentially affect the returns of this investment. The conclusions of this project will aid the investor in making a well-informed decision on the investment.

Singapore Rail Corridor

 

The Rail Corridor, initially known as the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Railway Line has immense historic value and boasts enormous plots of greenery. The immediate government authority involved is the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).

Since the railway land has been returned to Singapore in 2011, various stakeholders have shown great interest in the future development of this particular rail corridor in Singapore due to its historical value, nature, recreation, social and transportation benefits. One prominent stakeholder identified is the Nature Society of Singapore. The URA has initiated and sparked numerous activities that involved the engagement of the rail corridor’s stakeholders in previous years. These include the competitions that allowed the stakeholders to present their ideas. Despite this, an affirmative plan for the prospective use of the Rail Corridor has yet to be confirmed. Therefore, this team has been appointed to address the issues related to this and provide advice to the government authorities.

The main scope of the project is determining the future use of the Rail Corridor. The primary focus is to transform the Rail Corridor by making it an ecologically sustainable, socially sustainable, environmentally sustainable place where its history and heritage can be appreciated by its visitors through preservation of most of its original structure.  Apart from its historic value, the rail corridor boasts enormous plots of greenery which are a rarity in Singapore. This team has been tasked to determine the best course of action to preserve the heritage of the rail corridor and to satisfy all of its stakeholders.

The Kenyir Lake Resort is located in the state of Terengganu, in the eastern coast of Malaysia. The region's beautiful beaches, tropical rainforests and the lakes, are attracting an increasing number of tourists. Founded approximately 20 years ago, it was one of the very first hotels in the area. Today, fierce competition from more than 10 resorts in close proximity sees the Kenyir Lake Resort losing profitability. This group has been tasked to increase the popularity of this Malaysian palace and restore its historical reputation as the best resort in the area through analysis of competitors and development of new ideas which would provide Kenyir Lake Resort with a competitive advantage.

Located on the East coast of Peninsula Malaysia and the only international class resort located in the area, Kenyir Lake Resort's iconic status has been waning in recent times due to the presence of many competitors. A developer is contemplating the redevelopment of the resort into a luxury resort with residences and facilities that meet international five-star standards. This group will provide insights to the development plan and various factors that affect the feasibility of the project through comparison with three other similar resorts in South East Asia. The results of the research would provide potential investors with information necessary to make informed decisions prior to investing in the redevelopment project.

The chocolate and cookie companies in Malaysia are one of the many food industry firms that require palm oil for their products. However, reliance on palm oil has been identified as a problem due to the lack of sustainability elements in the palm oil industry. This group has been tasked to identify the various relationships between the food industry's reliance on palm oil firms and its continued lack of sustainable practices such as slash and burn techniques that create pollution and affect wildlife habitats. Palm oil firms that have sustainable practices would also be identified to provide the companies with an alternative supplier. Research would also be done to discover an alternative to palm oil to ensure continued profitability through sustainable partnerships and practices.
